Workspace Roles

Pre-Defined Roles

EmpowerGPT includes a robust, permission-based role system that ensures controlled access to files and operations. Roles determine what actions a user can perform within a workspace.

Accessing Roles

To access and manage roles:

  1. Click your username at the top-left corner of the screen

  2. Select Users and Roles

  3. Open the Roles tab

Default Built-In Roles

Viewer

  • View conversations

  • View chat history

  • View outputs and results

  • No ability to edit, run, or change anything

For stakeholders who only need visibility, auditing, or review access

Contributor

  • View everything a Viewer can

  • Run the assistant

  • Provide inputs to the assistant

  • Trigger actions

  • Cannot modify the assistant’s configuration

For team members actively using the assistant but not configuring it

Controller

  • Full access to view and run (Viewer + Contributor abilities)

  • Edit assistant configuration

  • Modify instructions, actions, and tools

  • Manage integrations

For owners, admins, or developers who build and maintain assistants
